About Us
Tobar Archaeological Services was established in 2003 by Annette Quinn and Miriam Carroll. Our name derives from the Irish word tobar, meaning a well. Tobar is found in many placenames throughout the country which may frequently be associated with a local holy well.
Since our inception in 2003 we have successfully completed an extensive range of projects for many clients, varying from one-off house construction to larger infrastructural developments. We have vast experience in renewable energy projects in particular wind and solar energy. We continue to provide invaluable advice and first-class archaeological services to our many long standing and new clients.
Miriam Carroll
Qualifications, memberships and interests
- BA Honours Degree in Archaeology and English, UCC 1993-1996
- MA Honours Degree in Methods and Techniques in Irish Archaeology, UCC 1996-1998
- Full professional member of the Institute of Archaeologists of Ireland (IAI)
Miriam has directed numerous large and small-scale excavations throughout the country, including a large early medieval enclosure at Fota Wildlife Park and an early Bronze Age settlement site at Buttevant, Co. Cork. She specializes in medieval artefact identification and has a personal interest in genealogy and wildlife. Miriam also summited Kilimanjaro in 2019.
